Nearly 170 persons attended the local Filipino Chamber’s inaugural FilAm Business Expo held at the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce on May 11 th even surprising the event organizers.

Over thirty-six FilAm businesses from a variety of sectors signed up for the inaugural Filipino business expo. They came from a variety of sectors including the construction, information technology, security consulting, banking, food production, organization consultants, real estate, and banking.

The Expo was convened to bring Filipino American owners to meet and get to know each other, present their products and services to buyers from government and the private sectors, and learn about small, minority business certifications.

The Expo was divided into two parts. A luncheon for the business owners and representatives featured Calvin Goings, Director of Region X Small Business Administration. The lunch was then followed by representatives from the State, King County, the Port of Seattle and City of Seattle who reviewed their application forms and process.

During the Expo event itself more than 120 visitors interacted with the Filipino business owners and representatives and with each other. The event was followed with a “Taste of the Philippine” social networking event that kept most of the attendees at the event until it closed at 5:30.
